Avoid Senior Isolation with In-Home Health Care Services

Humans are social creatures. We need interaction with our peers on a regular basis; it makes us happier, more creative and fosters a sense of well-being. As people age, the possibility of isolation increases and that interaction with other people can come to a standstill. Research has shown that seniors who are isolated run a greater risk of developing serious health issues. Problems such as high blood pressure and depression are just a part of the problem. Obesity and diabetes are also possible when a senior is isolated.

The Reasons Seniors become Isolated
  • Oftentimes, seniors live on a fixed income. Because of this, it can be difficult to find extra money to go out with friends, or for other entertainment outings.
  • As people age, their circle of family and friends can dwindle easily due to people moving away, retiring, and even passing away. The senior’s social circle therefore becomes more and more limited, creating isolation.
  • Driving skills or privileges are often limited in seniors, causing an inability to get around outside of the home.
  • Seniors often need some type of assistive device or simply feel shaky on their feet, making venturing out of their home uncomfortable and unpleasant for them.
How In-Home Health Care Can Help
  • An Always Best Care caregiver that visits the senior regularly (everyday) will be there to dispel isolation in a number of ways. Through their own companionship, and also through the ability to assist them with walking outside, escorting them to events and other outings, as well as planning visits to friends and family.
  • A pet is an excellent way to avoid senior isolation. If there is a question about whether the senior can take care of the animal, the ABC caregiver is there to provide pet help such as feeding, watering, walking, etc.
